Rachel Roberg Named MIAC Women’s Golf Athlete of the Week
Gustavus Adolphus College senior Rachel Roberg (Rice Lake, Wis.) has been named the MIAC Women's Golf Athlete of the Week by the league coaches. Roberg shot 80-80 to finish in fourth place at the Wartburg Invitational at Centennial Golf Course, site of the 2008 NCAA Women's Golf Championships, in Waverly, Iowa on Sunday.
Ubl Named MIAC Women’s Hockey Player of the Week
Gustavus Adolphus College senior forward Stefanie Ubl (Blaine, Minn.) has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Hockey Player of the Week for the week ending February 4, 2008. Ubl recorded five points (three goals and two assists) as the Gusties remained undefeated in MIAC play with 5-1 and 6-0 wins over Augsburg.
Vadnais Named MIAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Gustavus Adolphus College senior guard Jess Vadnais (Hudson, Wis.) has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending January 28, 2008. Vadnais averaged 22.7 points and 3.33 steals per game to help the Gusties finish the week a perfect 3-0, extend their win streak to five and stay in the conference title race.
Joe Welch Named MIAC Men’s Hockey Player of the Week
Gustavus Adolphus College sophomore forward Joe Welch (Hastings, Minn.) has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Hockey Player of the Week for the week ending January 14, 2008. Welch scored four goals in two games last weekend as the Gusties defeated St. Scholastica 8-3 on Friday night and tied UW-Superior 3-3 on Saturday night.
Trevor Wittwer Named MIAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Gustavus Adolphus College senior wing Trevor Wittwer (Redwood Falls, Minn.) has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending January 14, 2008. Wittwer averaged 19.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game to help the Gusties compile a 2-1 record last week.
Jessica Doig Named MIAC Women’s Hockey Player of the Week
Gustavus Adolphus College junior forward Jessica Doig (Jr., New Prague, Minn.) has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Hockey Player of the Week for the week ending January 14, 2008. Doig posted two goals and one assist over the weekend as the Gusties defeated St. Olaf 6-0 and Saint Mary's 3-1 in non-conference games.
Laura Vannelli Named MIAC Women’s Hockey Player of the Week
Gustavus Adolphus College senior defender Laura Vannelli (Apple Valley, Minn.) scored a power play goal at 8:55 of the second period to tie the score at 1-1 against No. 9 Wis.-Superior on Friday, Dec. 14 in St. Peter, Minn. The Gusties, who are ranked No. 8, added another goal in the third period and went on to claim the important 2-1 non-conference victory. Vannelli, who's goal came with :04 left on the power play,
Mari Gunderson Named MIAC Women’s Hockey Player of the Week
Gustavus Adolphus College junior forward Mari Gunderson has been named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Hockey Player of the Week for the week ending November 19, 2007. Gunderson recored four goals and one assist to help the Gusties sweep Hamline in the MIAC opener.
Mike Butterworth Named to d3kicks.com National Team of the Week
Gustavus Adolphus senior forward Mike Butterworth (Katy, Texas/Robert Service) was named to the d3kicks.com National Team of the Week after leading the Gusties to two victories this past weekend. Butterworth had stellar performances in Gustavus' 3-0 win over Simpson on Friday and the Gusties 4-0 win over Grinnell on Saturday. Butterworth began the weekend recording a goal and an assist Friday over the Storm. Butterworth later scored all four goals,
Eric Bigham Named MIAC Baseball Player of the Week
Gustavus Adolphus College freshman first baseman/left fielder Eric Bigham (Robbinsdale, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's) has been named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week for the week ending April 15, 2007. Bigham hit .538 on the week, going 7-for-13 with two doubles, a grand slam home run, five RBIs, and five runs scored in five games.
