Gustavus Adolphus College senior wing Trevor Wittwer (Redwood Falls, Minn.) has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending January 14, 2008. Wittwer averaged 19.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game to help the Gusties compile a 2-1 record last week.

Wittwer scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds as Gustavus opened the week with a 85-79 win over Saint Mary’s. He then scored 13 points and recorded five rebounds as the Gusties lost 69-57 at Concordia on Wednesday evening. Wittwer saved his best for last as he scored 24 points and grabbed three rebounds to help the Gusties upset #23 St. Thomas 59-58 in St. Peter on Saturday afternoon. In the three games, Wittwer shot 58.8 percent from the field (20-34) and 66.7 percent from the free throw line (18-27). Wittwer leads the team in scoring (15.3 ppg) and rebounding 6.4 rpg).

Wittwer, a health fitness major, is the son of the late James Wittwer and Cynthia Wittwer of Redwood Falls, Minn. and a 2004 graduate of Redwood Valley High School.

The Gusties, who are currently 9-3 overall and 5-2 in the MIAC, will travel to St. Paul to face Hamline at 7:30 p.m.
