Stefanie Ubl has been named MIAC Women’s Hockey Player of the Week.

Stefanie Ubl has been named MIAC Women’s Hockey Player of the Week.

Gustavus Adolphus College senior forward Stefanie Ubl (Blaine, Minn.) has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Hockey Player of the Week for the week ending February 4, 2008. Ubl recorded five points (three goals and two assists) as the Gusties remained undefeated in MIAC play with 5-1 and 6-0 wins over Augsburg.

Ubl posted a goal and two assists in Gustavus’ 5-1 win on Friday night in Minneapolis. On Saturday afternoon, Ubl scored two goals including a power-play goal in a 6-0 win in St. Peter. Ubl is the team’s leading scorer and the top scorer in the MIAC with 20 points (9g, 11a).

This marks the fourth time this season a member of the Gustavus women’s hockey team has been recognized. The others were Jessica Doig (Jan. 14), Laura Vannelli (Dec. 17), Mari Gunderson (Nov. 19).

Ubl, a communications major, is the daughter of Dave Ubl and Leslie Ubl of Maple Grove, Minn. and a 2004 graduate of Blaine High School.

The Gusties, who are currently ranked #4 in the USCHO.com poll, have won 17 straight games and are 17-1-0 overall and 12-0-0 in the MIAC. Gustavus will travel to Stevens Point, Wis. to face UW-Stevens Point on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. The Pointers handed the Gusties their only loss this season in a 5-1 decision. Gustavus will face Saint Benedict in a MIAC series starting on Friday night in St. Cloud at 7:30 p.m.
