Boucher’s Overtime Goal Lifts Women’s Hockey Over Bethel 1-0, Host Concordia Saturday For MIAC Playoff Title

It took 66:25 of play and 47 shots on goal, but the Gustavus women’s hockey team came out on top 1-0 over Bethel University on Thursday night in St. Peter, Minn. in MIAC Playoff Semifinal action. The win moves the Gusties into their 13th consecutive MIAC Championship Game appearance, which they’ve won eight-straight seasons. The Three Crowns will host Concordia College on Saturday afternoon; the Cobbers defeated St. Thomas 4-1 in semifinal play.

Geske And Ruane Garner MIAC Women’s Basketball All-Conference Honors

Gustavus women’s basketball players Molly Geske (Mendota Heights, Minn.) and Colleen Ruane (Edina, Minn.) have been named to the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Conference Team. Ruane was also named to the All-Defensive Team. Abby Rothenbuehler (North Mankato, Minn.) was named Honorable Mention, while Kelsey Florian (Roseville, Minn.) was voted as the Sixth Player-of-the-Year.

Women’s Hockey Hosts Bethel In MIAC Semifinals Thursday

The Gustavus women's hockey team is set to take on Bethel University on Thursday night for a MIAC Playoff Semifinal game at Don Roberts Ice Rink. The puck is slated to drop at 7:00 p.m. The No. 1 Gusties finished the regular season with a 21-2-2 overall record and 16-1-1 mark in the MIAC, while the No. 5 Royals come in at 12-10-4 overall and 9-7-2 in conference play.

Daniel Pomeranc Named MIAC Tennis Athlete Of The Week

Gustavus men’s tennis player Daniel Pomeranc (Sau Paulo, Brazil) has been named MIAC Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week for his outstanding play at the 2012 ITA National Indoor Championship last weekend in St. Peter, Minn. Pomeranc won all three of his doubles competitions at the No. 3 spot, all of which were against nationally ranked squads.

For his record-setting performance at the Pre-MIAC Meet last weekend, Gustavus junior John Owens has been named MIAC Indoor Field Athlete of the Week. This is the second time the Brooklyn Park, Minn. has received the recognition this season.

Gustavus women’s hockey player Amanda Cartony (Stillwater, Minn.) has been named MIAC Women’s Hockey Athlete of the Week for her outstanding performance against Saint Benedict in the regular season series finale. Cartony scored two goals in each game with an assist in game two of the series for a five-point weekend.

Men’s Tennis Takes Seventh Place At ITA National Indoor Championship

After dropping its first two matches of the weekend, the Gustavus men’s tennis team defeated 11th-ranked University of Chicago 7-2 Saturday in St. Peter, Minn. for a seventh place finish at the 2012 ITA National Indoor Championship. The Gusties improve to 6-4 overall, while the Maroons drop to 4-4.
