Gustavus women’s hockey player Amanda Cartony (Stillwater, Minn.) has been named MIAC Women’s Hockey Athlete of the Week for her outstanding performance against Saint Benedict in the regular season series finale. Cartony scored two goals in each game with an assist in game two of the series for a five-point weekend.

In Friday’s 9-1 victory over the Blazers, Cartony scored a power play goal at the 12:46 mark in the second period and added another player advantage goal nearly at the same point in the third. She took only three shots in the game, converting on two.

During Saturday’s 7-2 win, the Stillwater, Minn. native started the Gusties’ second scoring rout of the weekend with a goal at the 6:21 mark in the first. After the Blazers netted the equalizer, Cartony put the Three Crowns back in front with a power play goal 7:33 into the second. She took only two shots in game two of series, scoring on both. The sophomore forward tacked on an assist later in the period to cap her five-point weekend.

Cartony has 13 goals and 13 assists for 26 points this season. She’s tied for third on the team in goals and fifth in assists. Her 1.13 points per game average ranks sixth in the MIAC.

The Gustie women locked up the No. 1 seed in the MIAC Playoffs and will host the winner of the No. 4-5 play-in game between No. 4 St. Olaf and No. 5 Bethel. The Gusties swept Bethel early in the season and recently split with St. Olaf. Gustavus and the winner of the play-in game will face off at Don Roberts Ice Rink at 7:00 p.m. Thursday.
