Gustavus sophomore goaltender Kevin Johnson has been named MIAC Men’s Hockey Player of the Week for his efforts in helping the Gusties claim two important wins over St. Olaf (4-3 and 4-3, OT) last weekend. Johnson made 63 saves in the two games and posted a .913 save percentage.

The Gustavus men’s swimming team finished second at the seven-team UW-Stevens Point Invitational which finished up Saturday evening. The Gusties were edged out for the title by UW-La Crosse in the final event of the meet. UW-La Crosse totalled 807.5 points, while Gustavus finished with 799.

Men’s Basketball Picks Up 79-70 Win at Macalester

The Gustavus Adolphus men’s basketball team opened the second half of the MIAC schedule with a 79-70 win over Macalester Saturday afternoon in St. Peter. Andrew Doble led the Gusties with 21 points followed by 20 from Trevor Wittwer. Gustavus (9-7, 7-4 MIAC) will face Augsburg Monday night in Minneapolis.

Hosfield’s Goal Lifts Hockey Team to 4-3 Overtime Win at St. Olaf

Senior forward Mike Hosfield scored a power play goal at 3:48 of overtime to allow Gustavus to claim a 4-3 win and remain undefeated in MIAC play at 8-0-0. The Gusties rallied from 2-1 and 3-2 deficits to post the hard-fought victory in overtime.

Eric Butorac, a 2003 graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College and former NCAA Division III Singles and Doubles Champion, picked up his first ever win in a Grand Slam tournament when he teamed with partner Travis Parrott to post a first round victory at the Australian Open on Thursday afternoon (Wednesday night in the United States).
