Hosfield’s Goal Lifts Hockey Team to 4-3 Overtime Win at St. Olaf Posted on January 20th, 2007 by

Senior forward Mike Hosfield scored a power play goal at 3:48 of overtime to allow Gustavus to claim a 4-3 win and remain undefeated in MIAC play at 8-0-0. The Gusties rallied from 2-1 and 3-2 deficits to post the hard-fought victory in overtime.

St. Olaf jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a goal just :17 seconds into the contest. Gustavus tied the score at 1-1 when Ben Olilla scored at the 6:02 mark. The Oles took a 2-1 lead with a goal in the final minute of the first period.

Neither team was able to score in the second period giving the Oles a 2-1 lead heading into the final period.

Gustavus tied the game at 2-2 at 4:53 of the third period when Eric Bigham scored a power play goal.

St. Olaf took a 3-2 lead with a goal at the 9:28 mark.

The Gusties tied the score at 3-3 when James Leathers tipped in a shot from Mike Hosfield at the 11:16 mark.

Gustavus claimed its fourth overtime win of the season when Hosfield netted the gamewinner in the extra session.

Kevin Johnson picked up the win in the nets for Gustavus. He recorded 37 saves. The Gusties were 4-of-6 on the power play, while the Oles were 0-for-9 with the man-advantage.
