The Gustavus men’s track and field team put together a strong performance on Saturday, February 19, in Collegeville, Minn. In the Saint John’s Triangular, the Gusties posted six event wins and placed second overall with a team score of 127 points.
Blair Riegel won three events for Gustavus, including the 200-meter dash (22.78), long jump (6.66 meters), and triple jump (13.83 meters). Riegel has now won three events in back-to-back weeks, as he captured the same event titles on February 12 at Carleton’s Meet of Hearts.
Also winning events on the track at Saint John’s included Matt Dvorak, who posted a time of 6.58 in the 55-meter dash, and Matt Leeb, who won the 400-meter dash in 51.42. In the field events, the Gusties’ Cameron Clause won the pole vault with a mark of 4.47 meters.
Other top Gustavus performances included Mark Bartley’s second place in the mile (4:37.52), Tanner Davenport’s second place in the 1000-meter run (2:40.17), and Mark Stice’s second place in the weight throw (15.21 meters). Also finishing in the top three for the Gusties were Leeb in the 200-meter run (23.10), Eric Jorgenson in the 800-meter run (2:00.82), and Carl Stenoien in pole vault (4.32 m).
Other teams competing at the meet included Concordia (93 points), UM-Morris (64), St. Scholastica (34), St. Thomas (18), and St. Cloud State (14).
Gustavus will return to action on Friday, February 25, traveling to Macalester for the Pre-MIAC meet in St. Paul.
