Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Named USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association released its annual academic awards Thursday and both the Gustavus men’s and women’s track & field programs have been named All-Academic Teams.

Aaron Lund Named Head Track & Field Coach at Gustavus Adolphus College

Gustavus Adolphus College Athletic Director Tom Brown announced Tuesday that Aaron Lund has been chosen to become the new head coach for the men’s and women’s track & field programs, starting Aug. 1. Lund comes to Gustavus after serving as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Whittier College (Calif.) for the past three years.

68 Gusties Recognized as 2018-19 MIAC Winter and Spring Academic All-Conference

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) on Thursday announced its 2018-19 Winter and Spring Academic All-Conference Teams, which included 68 Gustavus student athletes. Combined with the 427 MIAC Fall-sport athletes who were honored in January, the overall total of Academic All-Conference selections for the 2018-19 academic year sets a new Conference-high of 1,172, surpassing the previous record of 1,111, set last June.

Nora Holtan, Michael Hensch Selected as 2018-19 Gustavus Athletes of the Year

The Gustavus Adolphus College Athletics Department is pleased to announce the winners of the 19th Annual Gustavus Athlete of the Year awards. The 2018-19 recipients are volleyball setter Nora Holtan (Sr., Rochester, Minn.) and track & field thrower/football defensive end Michael Hensch (Sr., North Branch, Minn.).

Hensch, Keelin Named May Student-Athletes of the Month

Men’s and women's track & field throwing specialists Michael Hensch (Sr., North Branch, Minn.) and Katie Keelin (Jr., Burnsville, Minn.) have been selected as the Gustavus Adolphus College Male and Female Student-Athletes of the Month for May, presented by Thrivent Financial and voted on by the Gustavus Sports Information Department.

Hensch Takes Bronze in Hammer at NCAA Outdoor Championships

Gustavus men’s thrower Michael Hensch (Sr., North Branch, Minn.) capped his decorated collegiate career with an All-American third place finish in the hammer throw at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Hensch Earns All-America in Shot Put, Rooney Takes 11th in 110 Hurdles

Gustavus thrower Michael Hensch (Sr., North Branch, Minn.) earned his second All-America honor in as many days, taking seventh place in the shot put at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Friday. Hensch’s second throw of 54-01.75 (16.50m) in the second flight was his best toss of the event.

Hensch Earns All-America, Takes Eighth in Discus at NCAA Championships

Gustavus thrower Michael Hensch (Sr., North Branch, Minn.) took eighth place in the discus at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Thursday, earning All-America status. Hensch’s second attempt landed at 160-09 (49.00m), which was his best mark of the event. Hensch had the best throw out of 10 competitors in the first flight and was able to advance to the finals as his mark beat three competitors in the second flight.

Three Gusties Set to Compete at NCAA Outdoor Championships

Three members from the Gustavus track & field teams will compete at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on May 23-25 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. Michael Hensch (Sr., North Branch, Minn.) and Taylor Rooney (So., Andover, Minn.) will represent the Gustie men, while Katie Keelin (Jr., Burnsville, Minn.) will represent the women.

Hensch Named Central Region Field Athlete of the Year

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its Regional Athletes and Coaches of the Year for the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field season Tuesday and Gustavus thrower Michael Hensch (Sr., North Branch, Minn.) was named the Central Region Men’s Field Athlete of the Year.
