The Gustavus men’s outdoor track and field team scored 30 top-five finishes at the Gustie Invitational held at the Gustavus Outdoor Track and Field Complex on Saturday afternoon in St. Peter, Minn. The Gusties won seven events, while reaching the podium in a total of 19 events on the afternoon. No team scores were kept at the meet.
Mark Hartman, Cole Carlson, Max Hanson, Colin Rust, and David Young all scored individual event wins for the Gusties. Hartman won the 10,000-meter run with a time of 35:40.93. Carlson took first in the 400-meter dash (49.84) and fourth in the 200-meter dash (22.15). Hanson won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.55, Rust took the triple jump with a mark of 12.91 meters, and Young placed first in the javelin with a throw of 46.99 meters.
In the track events, Matt Dvorak, Adam Lund, Matt Leeb, Grand Rorem, and David Erlandson, Mark Bartley turned in the top performances. Dvorak placed second in the 100-meter dash (10.85), while Lund finished second in the 10,000-meter run (36:36.41). Leeb took third in the 200-meter dash (22.13) and fifth in the 400-meter dash (50.01). Rorem placed third in the 110-meter hurdles (16.65) and fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:03.23). Erlandson placed third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.97, and Bartley took second in the 5000-meter run (16:02.80).
In the field events, standouts included Jake Peymann, Preston Tomlinson, Brian Anderson, and Nick Davis. Peymann took second in the long jump and third in the high jump with marks of 6.19 meters and 1.93 meters, respectively. Tomlinson added a second place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 11.93 meters. Anderson placed second in the hammer throw (48.51m), third in the shot put (15.24m), and fourth in the discus (42.92m). Nick Davis finished third in the discus with a throw of 43.24.
The 4×400-meter relay team of Carlson, Tony Reed, Adam Lund, and John Kennedy took first with a time of 3:34.46. David Schutt, Leeb, Colby Citrowske, and Dvorak teamed up to win the 4×100-meter relay with a time of 44.06.
The Gustavus men’s outdoor track and field team will hit the track again on Friday, May 7, when it competes in the Meet of the Unsaintly hosted by Hamline University in St. Paul, Minn. Meet time is TBD.
