Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Registers Nine Event Wins At Gustie Invitational Posted on May 1st, 2010 by

The Gustavus women’s outdoor track and field team registered 31 top-five finishes at the Gustie Invitational held at the Gustavus Outdoor Track and Field Complex on Saturday afternoon in St. Peter, Minn.  The Gusties tallied nine individual event wins at the meet, as there were no team scores kept.

Event winners included Janey Helland, Becca Bryson, Sam Broderius, Abby Karl, and Anna Bauer. Helland had an outstanding day on the track and in the field, scoring a first place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (1:06.43), and winning both the high jump (1.60m) and long jump (5.23m).  Bryson won the javelin (35.02m), while taking second in both the triple jump (10.60m) and long jump (5.13m).  Broderius was also a multiple event winner, taking first in the shot put (13.02m) and discus (44.95m).  Abby Karl won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:24.03, and Bauer won the hammer throw with a toss of 44.95 meters.

Julia Thompson placed second in the 100-meter dash (12.91) and fourth in the 200-meter dash (26.48).  Sarah Baker had a strong day, placing third in both the 200-meter dash (26.35) and high jump (1.50m), and finishing fourth in the long jump (5.12m).

Amanda Iverson, Natalie Ristau, Kim Rostvold, Brooke Beskau, and Laura Secor all added third place finishes in the track events.  Iverson in the 400-meter dash (1:02.16), Ristau in the 800-meter run (2:25.97), Rostvold in the 5000-meter run (19:20.54), Beskau in the 10,000-meter run (41:19.58), and Secor in the 400-meter hurdles (1:08.72).  Kaelene Lundstrum added a third place finish in the shot put with a toss of 11.63 meters, and fifth place finish in the 100-meter hurdles.

The Gustavus 4×400 meter relay team consisting of Danielle Burgmeier, Karl, Iverson, and Megan Lundgren took first place with a time of 4:09.54, while the 4×100 meter relay team of Janie Briant, Julia Thompson, Baker, and Iverson finished third with a time of 51.28. 

The Gustavus women’s outdoor track and field team will hit the track again on Friday, May 7, when it competes in the Meet of the Unsaintly hosted by Hamline University in St. Paul, Minn.  Meet time is TBD.
