Sawtell Named WCGA Regional Assistant Coach of the Year

Gustavus gymnastics Assistant Coach Erin Sawtell was named North Central Regional Assistant Coach of the Year, the Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) announced Monday. Sawtell helped the Gusties to a record season, breaking multiple existing program records. The 2022-23 team set a record for most wins in a season with five, broke the program team score against UW-Stout (187.775), and broke the team beam score at the WIAC Championships (47.675). Including the record performance against UW-Stout, the Gusties added four more team scores that placed in the top 10 in program history.

Gymnastics Finishes Sixth at WIAC Championship/NCGA West Regional

The Gustavus gymnastics team posted its second best team score of the season Saturday at the WIAC Championship/NCGA West Regional hosted by UW-Oshkosh. The Gusties 186.925 earned them sixth place among eight competing teams, defeating both UW-Eau Claire and Hamline. Gustavus finished the day with six personal career-bests and eight season-high scores. 

Gusties Shine in Victory Over Hamline

Friday marked the Gusties' last meet before the WIAC Championships, last home meet of the year, and Senior Night — and the Gusties made it count. Placing first in three of the four events, the Gusties defeated Hamline by a score of 185.800-183.300. The Gusties were dominant on nearly all fronts, getting seven career-bests and eight season-bests.

Gusties Fall to League-Leading UW-La Crosse

The Gusties faced quite the opponent Friday night, after all, the Eagles entered the meet as the current WIAC leader with a conference record of 6-0 and overall record of 7-2. The Gusties, hot off their record-setting performance against UW-Stout last week, gave the Eagles a good fight, but ultimately fell by a score of 189.525-184.775.

Gymnastics Picks Up Conference Victory at Winona State

The Gustavus gymnastics team picked up a WIAC victory on the road Friday, defeating Winona State by a score of 184.800-183.150. The Gusties outscored the Warriors in bars, beam, and floor to take the victory, improving their team score for the fifth straight meet.
