Men’s Hockey Edged By No. 10 Augsburg, 2-1

On a day full of celebrations, from the life of legendary coach Don Roberts to 75 seasons of Gustavus hockey, the Gusties came up just short in a 2-1 loss to No. 10-ranked Augsburg on Saturday evening. The defeat drops to the Gusties to 1-6-1 overall and 0-4 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, but takes nothing away from an amazing day full of amazing stories shard by Gustavus hockey alumni and friends.

Men’s Hockey Drops MIAC Opener 3-1 To St. Thomas

The Gustavus men’s hockey team opened Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Friday at Don Roberts Ice Rink, losing 3-1 to the University of St. Thomas. The loss drops the Gusties to 1-3-1 overall and 0-1 in the league, while the Tommies improve to 2-2-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

Men’s Hockey Drops Season Opener 5-2 To Saint John’s

The Gustavus men’s hockey team dropped its season opener Friday 5-2 to Saint John’s at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Showcase. The Gusties and Johnnies were tied 2-2 at the second intermission, but a pair of even-strength goals in the third period followed by a late power play goal led to the lopsided defeat.

Men’s Hockey Wins Second Straight, 5-2 Over Bethel

The Gustavus Adolphus College men’s hockey team skated to a 5-2 victory over the Bethel University Royals on Friday night at Don Roberts Ice Rink. The game was tied 1-1 after the first frame, but the Gusties took off, scoring two second period goals, and netted another two in the third, earning a three-goal win over the Royals. The win brings Gustavus to 6-12-4 overall and 5-6-2 in the conference, while Bethel falls to 2-18-2 overall and 1-12-0 in the league.

Men’s Hockey Earns Big Win, 6-3, Over Concordia

The Gustavus men’s hockey team picked up a huge 6-3 win over Concordia College on Friday night at Don Roberts Ice Rink. The Gusties improve to 4-10-3 overall and 3-4-2 in the MIAC, while the Cobbers fall to 7-9-2 overall and 5-3-1 in the league. The victory snaps a seven-game winless streak and marks the first win at home this season.

Deja Vu For Men’s Hockey In Shootout Loss To St. Olaf

It was déjà vu for the Gustavus men’s hockey team as it watched a third period lead fade away, forcing an overtime with St. Olaf on Saturday night and ending with another shootout loss. The 3-3 tie with St. Olaf moves the Gusties to 3-10-4 overall and 2-4-2 in the MIAC, along with one point in the league standings.

Men’s Hockey Ties St. Olaf 3-3, Falls In Shootout

Although the Gustavus men’s hockey team led 3-1 late in the third period Friday night, St. Olaf picked up its sense of urgency in the final minute, scoring a goal with 20 seconds remaining and then put in the game-tying goal with two seconds on the clock to force overtime. Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the overtime period and the game went to a shootout. The Oles made their first and third shots to claim the shootout victory and two points in the MIAC standings. The tie gives the Gusties one point in the league standings as they move to 3-10-3 overall and 2-4-1 in the MIAC.

The Gustavus men’s hockey team put forth a hard-fought effort Friday night at Don Roberts Ice Rink, but came out on the wrong side of a 2-1 decision against UW-Superior to fall to 3-9-2 overall on the season.

Men’s Hockey Loses Third Period Lead 5-3 To UW-Stout

The Gustavus men’s hockey team battled back and forth with the University of Wisconsin-Stout for the first two periods Saturday night at Don Roberts Ice Rink and held a one-goal lead, but the Blue Devils rallied for three third period goals, handing the Gusties a 5-3 loss. The Gusties fall to 3-8-2 overall, while the Blue Devils move to 7-4-3.

Men’s Hockey Wins Another Overtime Thriller, 2-1 Against Saint John’s

For the second time in three games, the Gustavus men’s hockey team skated away with an overtime victory as it defeated Saint John’s University 2-1 on Saturday afternoon to improve to 3-5-2 overall and 2-4 in the MIAC. The game-winner came 3:20 into the overtime period as a close shot from the right side by Drew Aspinwall (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn.) was turned away behind the goal. Van Sullivan (Fy., Brentwood, Tenn.) then gathered the puck and found Alex Koopmeiners (Jr., St. Cloud, Minn.) in front of the crease as he took a quick slap-shot that went past the blocker side of the Johnnie goalie for the sudden death win.
