Men’s Golf Holds Second Place Entering Final Day at MIAC Meet

The Gustavus Adolphus men's golf team bettered its first round score by five strokes Sunday at the 2006 MIAC Men's Golf Championships, but so did first-round leader Saint John's, giving the Johnnies an 18-stroke cushion heading into the final day of the league meet at Bunker Hills G.C. in Coon Rapids. Gustavus' Jordan Hawkinson fired the round of the tournament to this point on Sunday with a 70 to move into a tie for third place individually.

The Gustavus Adolphus men's golf team sits third after Sunday's first round of the Frank Wrigglesworth UWEC Collegiate at the Eau Claire Country Club. The Gusties (297) trail host UW-Eau Claire (296) by a stroke and day one leader Saint John's (292) by five. Jordan Hawkinson is tied for sixth place after an opening round 73. The tournament concludes with 18 holes on Monday.

The Gustavus Adolphus men's golf team fired a second-round 308 to finish tied with UW-Eau Claire for fourth place at the Saint John's Invitational Sunday at Blackberry Ridge G.C. in Sartell. The Gustie Gold squad and the Blugolds each shot 36-hole team totals of 623 to finish eight strokes behind the Blue squad from host Saint John's. The Gustie Black squad finished finished tied for 12th (655).

Led by first-year Ricky Copeland's 75, the Gustavus Adolphus men's golf team sits in a sixth place tie with host Saint John's after day one at the Saint John's Invitational with a 18-hole team total of 315. Copeland is tied with two other golfers just one shot off the lead. St. Thomas (310) leads Augsburg and St. Cloud State by a stroke in the team race, while nine teams are within seven strokes of the lead.

Men’s Golf Finishes Third at Augsburg Invitational

In its first competition of the fall, the Gustavus men's golf team place two teams in the top five Sunday at the Augsburg Invitational at Minnesota Dunes Golf Course in Cottage Grove. The Gold team finished third with a score of 300-304--604, while the Black team finished fifth with a score of 316-303--619. Juniors Jordan Hawkinson (Gustavus Gold) and Eric Harris (Gustavus Black) each tied for eighth with a 36-hole total of 149 to rank as the top Gusties on the medalist leaderboard.

The Gustavus Adolphus men's golf team placed two individuals in the top three on the leaderboard and finds itself in second place headed into Sunday's final round of the Augsburg Invitational. The host Auggies lead the Gusties 297-300, while Mark Stuckey (Jr., St. Peter, Minn.) is second individually with a 71. Jordan Hawkinson (Jr., Lindstrom, Minn.) is tied for third after posting a round of even-par 72.

Men’s Golf Finishes 14th at NCAA Championships

The Gustavus Adolphus men's golf team shot a 29-over-par 313 Thursday to jump from 20th place after round three to 14th place following the final round of competition at the 2006 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship at Firethorn Golf Club in Lincoln, Nebraska. Gustavus' four-day, 72-hole team total of 1254 left them one shot ahead of Huntingdon College (1255). Nebraska Wesleyan won the title by ten strokes over University of Redlands. Rochester's Stephen Goodridge was medalist with a 5-over-par 289.
