Men’s Golf Finishes Third at Augsburg Invitational Posted on September 10th, 2006 by

The Gustavus men’s golf team place two teams in the top five Sunday at the Augsburg Invitational at Minnesota Dunes Golf Course in Cottage Grove. The Gold team finished third with a score of 300-304–604, while the Black team finished fifth with a score of 316-303–619. Host Augsburg captured the team title with a score of 297-295–592, seven strokes ahead of St. Thomas (301-298–599).

Juniors Jordan Hawkinson (Gold; Lindstrom, Minn) and Eric Harris (Black; Eden Prairie, Minn.) each tied for eighth with a 36-hole total of 149 to rank as the top Gusties on the medalist leaderboard.

After opening with a 79 on Saturday, senior Eric Tone (Willmar, Minn.) carded the low score in the final round with a 71 to finish tenth with a 150 total for the Gold squad. Mark Stuckey (Jr., St. Peter, Minn.) finished tied for 12th after shooting 71-81–152, while freshman Ricky Copeland (Mahtomedi, Minn.) placed 15th with a 78-75–153. Derek Hilding (Fr., Willmar, Minn.) fired rounds of 83 and 81 for a 38th-place total of 164 to round out the scoring for Gustavus Gold.

Kyle Rohlfs (81-75–156), A.J. Olson (80-78–158), Arie DeGrio (83-76–159) and Greg Palm (80-83–163) also posted scores for Gustavus Black.

The Gustavus men will next participate in the Saint John’s Invitational Sept. 16-17 at Greystone G.C. in Sauk Centre and Blackberry Ridge G.C. in Sartell.
