St. Peter, Minn. – Gustavus Adolphus senior gymnast Samantha Opsahl (Forest Lake, Minn.) has been recognized as the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Gymnastics Specialist-of-the-Week for her showing at the John Zuerlein Invitational held Friday, Jan. 25 at the Johnson Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Opsahl turned in Gustavus’ top performance of the season in the third place team finish at the meet.
Opsahl made her mark on the balance-beam, scoring a season-best 9.450 to take the top spot on the podium. Her performance was Gustavus’ first individual win of the season and the Forest Lake native’s best beam routine since scoring a 9.475 on Feb. 3, 2012 at the Gershon/McLellan Invitational. Along with her first place finish on the beam, the senior also placed fourth on the floor exercise with a score of 9.200.
Opsahl and the rest of the Gustavus gymnastics team will be back on the mat Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 3 in a dual meet against Winona State set to take place at 1:00 p.m. in Winona, Minn.
