The Gustavus gymnastics team dropped its home opener Saturday to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater by a score of 188.275-181.725. Alex Kopp (Sr., Wayzata, Minn.) highlighted the Gusties by winning the beam with a score of 9.625 and the all-around at 37.700.
After two meets on the road to start the season, the Gustavus gymnastics team is set to host its home opener at 1 p.m. Saturday against the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at the Sponberg Gymnastics Studio. The Gustavus gymnastics team showed a big improvement Friday from its first meet of the season last week, scoring 182.400 in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference dual loss to Winona State, who tallied 184.150. The jump of nearly seven points from last week is the largest team score improvement in consecutive meets since the 2011 season.

The College at Brockport: State University of New York in Brockport, N.Y. hosts this year’s national meet, which takes place Friday and Saturday. Kopp is competing in the all-around competition on Friday, and will then compete in three individual events - vault, floor, and beam - on Saturday.
