Josh Owens Earns MIAC Men’s Indoor Field Athlete-Of-The-Week Posted on January 29th, 2013 by

Owens,Josh 1O0T9442Gustavus pole vaulter Josh Owens (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) was named MIAC Men’s Indoor Field Athlete-of-the-Week for his first place finish after clearing a height of 4.75 meters, or 15-feet 7-inches, on Friday at the season-opening St. Olaf Invitational.  This is the third time Owens’ has earned MIAC Athlete-of-the-Week honors throughout his career at Gustavus.

Owens’ performance on Friday also places him seventh in the nation among all NCAA Division III pole vaulters. It is a good start for the Brooklyn Park native who placed ninth at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships last year. The 2012 MIAC indoor pole vault champion currently holds the Gustavus indoor school record, which he set last season after clearing a height of 16-feet 4.75-inches at the Pre-MIAC Meet.

Owens and the rest of the Gustavus indoor track and field team will head to Minnesota State University, Mankato on Saturday, Feb. 2 to compete in the Ted Nelson Classic.
