Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Takes Third At MIAC Championships

Moorhead, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s outdoor track and field team finished in third place with 99 points after compiling 48 points on the final day of competition at the 2012 MIAC Championships held on the campus of Concordia College.  St. Thomas came roaring back with 140 points on day two, earning the Tommies the conference title for the eighth-straight season.  Finishing second behind St. Thomas’ two-day total 172.5 points was host Concordia with a total of 120.5 points.

Earning All-Conference distinction on the second day was Caitlin Fermoyle (Fy., Mendota Heights, Minn.) and the 4×400-meter relay team of Danielle Burgmeier (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.), Haley Kemper (Fy., Prior Lake, Minn.), Amanda Iverson (Jr., Waconia, Minn.), and Sara Lundgren (Fy., Mankato, Minn.).  Fermoyle came in second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:48.68, and the 4×400-meter relay capped off the women’s races with a runner-up finish in 3:54.29.  The 4×400’s time was faster than former Irv Christenson Stadium record.

Sara Lundgren and Beth Hauer (Jr., Little Falls, Minn.) both added top-five individual finishes today.  Lundgren placed fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.54, and Hauer crossed the finish line in 18:21.29 to place fourth in the 5,000-meter run.

Rounding out Gustavus’ top performers on the track was Amanda Iverson and Erica Roelofs (Sr., Vernon Center, Minn.).  Iverson went 59.403 to place sixth in the 400-meter dash, while Roelofs turned in a 67.56 to place seventh in the 400-meter hurdles.

Senior Emily Klatt (Woodbury, Minn.) provided Gustavus’ top field event finish today.  Klatt placed fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 36-feet 11.75-inches.  Finishing behind Klatt in seventh in the triple jump was junior Lauren Rothschiller (Chaska, Minn.) with a leap of 36-9.

Also scoring points in the jumps was senior Sarah Baker (Roseville, Minn.) with a seventh place finish in the high jump after clearing 5-1.  Rookie Rachel Colter (North St. Paul, Minn.) rounded out the afternoon’s top finishers with a sixth place performance in the javelin with a throw of 110-0.
