SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s hockey team will begin MIAC play this weekend when they take on No. 7 Augsburg. Friday’s game at Don Roberts Ice Rink will begin at 7:05 p.m. while Saturday’s matchup in Minneapolis is at 7 p.m. The Gusties enter the series 3-3 overall while the Auggies are 5-1-0.

Gustavus Game Notes

The Series: Friday’s contest marks the 134th contest between the two teams with Gustavus currently leading the series 75-52-6. The two teams last met on Jan. 19 with the Gusties winning 3-1 in Saint Peter. Robbie Goor (Jr., Anoka) starred in the game, making 32 saves while allowing just the one goal for the victory.

Scouting the Gusties: Gustavus comes into the contest most recently dropping a pair of games last weekend to UW-Eau Claire and UW-River Falls. Through six games the Gusties score 2.33 goals per game and allow 2.16, the second best in the league, trailing only Augsburg. Gustavus is led by Caleb Anderson (Jr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) with five points thus far on the season, while a foursome of Gusties have four points. Logan Norman (Jr., Luverne) has scored the most goals for the Black and Gold with three, while Tyler Rock (Jr., Savage) has scored two game-winners. Goor is the projected starter in net for the Gusties, allowing six goals while making 77 saves this season, for a save percentage of .928.

Scouting the Auggies: After a 5-0 start Augsburg is coming off its first loss of the year Saturday after it fell to UW-Eau Claire. After six contests, The Auggies are third in the league with 3.50 goals per game while their 1.17 goals allowed are first. Augsburg also employs a strong penalty kill, successfully thwarting 91.3 percent of opponent power plays. Austin Martinsen and Gunnar Goodmanson lead the Augsburg attack, notching nine and seven points, respectively, with Martinsen scoring a team-most five goals. Daniil Gerasimov has played the most in net for the Auggies, making 79 saves while allowing three goals for a save percentage of .963.
