Women’s Hockey Set for Final Regular Season Series with Bennies

The Gustavus women’s hockey team will play host to Saint Benedict on Friday and then travel to St. Cloud Saturday for their final regular season series.

SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s hockey team will play host to Saint Benedict on Friday and then travel to St. Cloud Saturday for their final regular season series. Friday night’s game between the Gusties (13-5-5, 9-3-4 MIAC) and Bennies (7-12-2, 4-10-2 MIAC) will begin at 7 p.m. at Don Roberts Ice Rink, while Saturday’s game will be a 2:30 p.m. contest at Dave Torrey Arena.

Scouting the Gusties

Gustavus is most recently coming off a series sweep of Concordia last weekend. The Gusties are riding a seven-game unbeaten streak where they have won four games and tied three and outscored opponents 24-7 in the same stretch. Through 23 games this season Gustavus scores 2.61 goals per game and allows 1.40, marks which rank fourth and second in the MIAC respectively. On special teams Gustavus ranks fourth in the conference in power play percentage (17.2) and third in penalty kill percentage (87.9). The Black and Gold are led on the attack by captains Allie Stanger and Amelia Vosen who have 20 and 16 points respectively. First-years Lilia Scheid, Kristina Press, Stephanie Anderson, and Kayla Vrieze are the other four Gusties who have double-digit points on the season. Amanda DiNella has started 22 games in net, making 458 saves while allowing 33 goals for a save percentage of .933.

Scouting the Bennies

Saint Ben’s is coming off a pair of losses to No. 1 St. Thomas last weekend. Through 21 games this season the Bennies average 1.95 goals per game and allow 2.60, marks which rank sixth and eighth in the conference respectively. Saint Ben’s has been a very disciplined team this season, serving the least penalty minutes in the MIAC. The Bennies have been led on the attack by Courtney Conlin who has 14 points and Julia Pias with 12. Maddie Dockry and Annika Brodt have supplemented the attack, registering 11 and 10 points respectively. Kailee Medved has started 10 games in net for the Bennies making 287 saves while allowing 23 goals for a save percentage of .923.
