SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s hockey team put Saturday night’s game away late with three third period goals against Saint Mary’s en route to a 5-1 victory at Don Robert Ice Rink. The Gusties salvage a series split, moving to 7-13-1 overall and 4-7-1 in the MIAC, regaining the league’s fifth spot in the standings over the Cardinals with 13 points.

After a scoreless first period, the Gusties scored at the 8:49 mark of the second on a one-timer by Mason Etter (So., Grafton, Wis.) with the direct pass coming from Evan Erickson (Sr., Woodbury, Minn.). With 31 seconds left in the frame, Toby Sengvongxay (Fy., Luverne, Minn.) netted his sixth goal of the season with another assist going to Erickson and the Gusties carried at a 2-0 lead into the second intermission.

Saint Mary’s made it a one-goal game 1:36 into the third, but Tyler Ebner (Fy., La Crosse, Wis.) scored his first of two goals in the game with 10:28 left in the contest, assisted for the third time by Erickson who tallied a career-high hat trick of helpers. Tyler Rock (So., Savage, Minn.) then sniped a shot into the top-right corner of the net to make it 4-1 with under eight minutes left and Ebner put the game out of reach at the 17:10 mark with his fifth goal of the season.

Gustavus outshot Saint Mary’s 33-25, going 1-for-5 on the power play and killing off all five of its penalties. Robbie Goor (So., Anoka, Minn.) made 24 saves in his second consecutive win.

The Gusties enjoy their bye week next weekend and then travel to Concordia on Feb. 8-9 for an away series in Moorhead, Minn.
