SAINT PETER, Minn. – Chris Amsden (Sr., Saint Peter, Minn.) tied a personal best 40 saves to help the Gustavus men’s hockey team record a 3-0 shutout over Aurora on Friday night. The Gusties move to 5-6-1 overall while the Spartans drop to 7-5.
“It helps when your goalie is your best player, and Chris was certainly that tonight for us,” Head Coach Brett Petersen said.
After a scoreless first period, Tyler Ebner (Fy., La Crosse, Wis.) scored what proved to be the game winner at the 3:08 mark of the second frame. Nearly two minutes later, Tyler Rock (So., Savage, Minn.) buried a rebound off a shot by Mason Etter (So., Grafton, Wis.) and the Gusties carried a 2-0 lead into the second intermission.
Seven minutes into the third period, Logan Norman (So., Luverne, Minn.) and Rock passed the puck back and forth in the offensive zone with Norman finding the back of the net for the first time this season.
Amsden tallied his fifth career shutout and first since Dec. 2, 2017. Aurora outshot Gustavus 40-30. The Spartans went 0-3 on the power play, while the Gusties were 0-1.
The two teams complete the series at 3:05 p.m. tomorrow at Don Roberts Ice Rink.
