Men’s Basketball Back in Action Saturday Versus Morris Posted on December 28th, 2018 by

SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s basketball team will come back from Christmas break Saturday and head to Morris, Minn. for a 1 p.m. contest with the University of Minnesota-Morris. The Gusties enter the contest 3-6 overall while the Cougars are 4-6.

The Series

This the ninth all-time meeting between the Gusties and Cougars with the series evened at 4-4. The last time these two teams met on December 30, 2017, the Cougars took home a 76-71 victory.

Scouting the Gusties

In their last contest before break the Gusties fell to the Oles of St. Olaf on a last second shot by a score of 68-66. Riley Sharbono (Sr., Marshall, Minn.) scored 18 points in the contest to lead all Gusties while Nolan Malo (Fy., Owatonna, Minn.) tallied 14 points and eight rebounds. Malo is averaging 20.3 points and 6.0 rebounds in the teams last last three contests while Sharbono leads the Gusties in scoring on the season averaging 15 points per game.

Scouting the Cougars

Minnesota-Morris most recently defeated the College of St. Scholastica in UMAC play on December 16th by a score of 75-69. On the season the Cougars are led offensively by Jeffrey Halverson who is averaging 12.1 points per game to go along with a team leading 5.4 rebounds. After averaging 19.3 points per game last season, Noah Grove is right behind Halverson averaging 11.9 points per game this season.
