Three Gustie Tennis Players to Compete at ITA Cup Posted on October 10th, 2018 by

SAINT PETER, Minn. – Three Gustavus tennis players are set to compete in the ITA Cup Thursday at Berry College in Rome, Ga. Women’s singles player Ginger Valentine (So., Delano, Minn.), the fifth seed, will take on No. 4 Venia Yeung of Wesleyan at 9 a.m. The men’s doubles team of Chase Johnson (Sr., Golden Valley, Minn.) and Patrick Whaling (Sr., Manikin Sabot, Va.) will take on Jordan Pitts and Wilson Lambeth of Trinity (Texas) at 5 p.m. Thursday.

The winners of the ITA Cup move on to the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships. Formerly known as the Small College Nationals, the ITA Cup has history dating back to 1986. This year, more than 8,000 players took part in a total of 60 regional tournaments to gain entry into the ITA Cup field. Each division represented will feature eight singles players and eight doubles teams, competing in their respective draws.
