Gustavus men’s tennis seniors Chase Johnson (Golden Valley, Minn.) and Patrick Whaling (Manakin Sabot, Va.) are set to compete at the NCAA Individual Championships this weekend at Kalamazoo College. Whaling will take part in the singles tournament and then pair with Johnson for the doubles competition.

Johnson, O’Neil Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District

The 2019 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Google Cloud Academic All-District Men’s At-Large Teams were released Thursday and Gustavus men’s tennis players Chase Johnson (Sr., Golden Valley, Minn.) and Michael O’Neil (Jr., Edina, Minn.) are named to the 10-member District 6 Team, which features student-athletes from institutions in Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

Johnson and Whaling Earn ITA Regional Awards

The 2019 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division III men’s regional award winners were announced on Tuesday and two Gusties were recognized. Chase Johnson (Sr., Golden Valley, Minn.) was selected as the Central Region Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award winner, while Patrick Whaling (Sr., Manakin Sabot, Va.) was named both the Central Region Senior Player of the Year and Most Improved Senior.

Men’s Tennis Falls to Chicago in Region Title Match

The No. 16 Gustavus men’s tennis team’s season came to a close on Sunday in the NCAA region championship with a 5-2 loss to No. 2 Chicago. The Maroons jumped out to a 3-0 lead in doubles and were able to secure the match with a pair of singles victories.

Men’s Tennis Garners Four All-Conference Honors

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its men’s tennis postseason awards Wednesday and four Gusties were recognized as All-Conference members. Chase Johnson (Sr., Golden Valley, Minn.), Michael O’Neil (Jr., Edina, Minn.), and Patrick Whaling (Sr., Manakin Sabot, Va.) were named to the All-MIAC Singles Team, while Nick Aney (Fy., Rochester, Minn.), Johnson, and Whaling earned All-MIAC Doubles Team honors.

Johnson Named MIAC Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week

Chase Johnson (Sr., Golden Valley, Minn.) went a perfect 6-0 in singles and doubles combined to help the Gustavus men's tennis team claim its 31st consecutive MIAC men's tennis championship. For his performance, Johnson was named MIAC Athlete of the Week. 

Men’s Tennis Takes Down No. 11 Trinity

The Gustavus men's tennis team continued their spring trip with a victory over No. 11 Trinity (Tex.) 6-3. With the win the Gusties improve to 12-6 on the season.
