LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Gustavus men’s golf team played 36 holes of golf and ended the day with a team score of 582 (+6) on Saturday. The Gusties are in fifth place out of 17 teams and trail the leader, Ohio Wesleyan, by a total of 16 strokes.

About the day, coach Randy Stuckey said, “Today was a long day of golf with the guys playing 36 holes, but they came out with confidence and played solid throughout the day. I was extremely proud of their consistency and their attitude and demeanor on the course. Considering there was an hour and a half long rain delay in the first round I feel like we were mentally prepared coming out of the delay and that helped us keep a good score for the round.”

Ben Hauge (Jr., Ramsey, Minn.) played well for the Gusties shooting scores of 70 and 71 to finish the day three-under and in fourth place overall. First-year Jacob Pederson (Minnetonka, Minn.) impressed in his first collegiate meet with scores of 73 and 72 to put himself in a tie for 12th place. Carter Czichotzki (So., Moorhead, Minn.), Max Ullan (So., Blaine, Minn.), and Max Savini (Sr., Ramsey, Minn.) were the other three golfers for the Gusties and they scored three-over, five-over, and 10-over, respectively.

About his players, Stuckey said, “Our ball striking was good most of the time and we made some great saves around the green with good short game play.”

The Gusties will continue play tomorrow with one more round at the Transylvania Invite.

“We put ourselves in good position today to place well if we turn in another good score tomorrow. I anticipate the confidence will be there and we will play well,” coach Stuckey said.
