Women’s Hockey Takes On St. Kate’s This Weekend Posted on February 2nd, 2018 by

ST. PETER, Minn. – The No. 6-ranked Gustavus women’s hockey team plays a home-home MIAC series this weekend against St. Catherine. Friday’s game in St. Paul, Minn. begins at 7 p.m. and Saturday’s game in St. Peter starts at 2 p.m. The Gusties enter the weekend series 13-2-4 overall and 7-2-3 in the MIAC, while the Wildcats are 6-12-1 overall and 5-6-1 in the league.

GAME NOTES

Last time out: The Gusties tied and won in a series against Saint Mary’s last weekend. Friday’s game in Winona ended in a 1-1 overtime draw, while Saturday’s game in St. Peter ended 5-0 in favor of the home team. Sydney Henrichs scored the lone goal in Friday’s draw, the first of her career, and Amanda DiNella made nine saves. Five different Gusties scored goals in Saturday’s shutout, while DiNella made 11 saves in the win.

Gustie leaders: The trio of Kaitlyn Klein, Diana Draayer, and Erica Power have led the Gusties all season long on the scoresheet. Klein’s 17 goals ranks second in the MIAC and her 28 points are fourth most. Draayer and Power both have 22 points. Draayer has 12 goals and 10 assists, while Power has seven goals and a team-leading 15 assists, which is tied for third in the league. The three Gusties are the first trio to each have at least 20 points since the 2014-15 season when Power, Carolyn Draayer, and Alison Eder-Zdechlik each scored over 20 points. 

Last time they met: Last season the Gusties won and tied against St. Kate’s in the regular season series. The first game ended in a 3-3 overtime tie in St. Peter, and Saturday’s game in St. Paul ended in a 3-2 win for the Gusties. Erin Moes and Erica Power had goals in the 3-3 tie. Laura Johnson and Kaitlyn Klein added goals in the second game. Bailey Jackson earned the win in St. Paul after making 15 saves. Amanda DiNella was in goal for the tie making 14 saves.
