EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The Gustavus women’s golf team shot a first round 328 Sunday at the Georgianni Invite, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, which has the Gusties in first place by 16 strokes. Host UW-Eau Claire is in second after shooting a 344 and St. Norbert is in third at 368 within in the nine-team field.
Morgan Bleyhl (So., Elk River, Minn.) leads the field of 47 golfers with a low round score of 81. Jessica Nelson (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) and McKenzie Swenson (Sr., Buffalo, Minn.) are both one stroke off the lead, while Kristen Cash (So., Roseville, Minn.) is in fifth after carding an 83 and Ellie Brandt (Jr., Wayzata, Minn.) in sixth with an 84.
“We got off to a poor start, then settled things down in the middle of the round and didn’t finish as strong as we should have,” Assistant Coach Randy Stuckey said. “Our attitude and effort were outstanding today no matter what we shot on each hole. Patience was excellent. With a good start tomorrow morning along with patience we will compete well.”
The Georgianni Invite concludes tomorrow.
