After four scoreless innings, the Gusties crossed home plate first with a run in the top of the fifth to take a 1-0 lead. Jayme Munsterman (So., St. Peter, Minn.) singled, Grant Brockhouse (So., Urbandale, Iowa) sacrificed him over, and Brice Panning (Fy., Hamburg, Minn.) hit an RBI single.

Sam Archer (So., Zimmerman, Minn.) cruised through six innings on the mound but the Lancers finally tagged him for a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to claim the victory. The home team connected for four hits in the frame and took advantage of an error, balk, and wild pitch. Archer suffered the loss after six and two-thirds innings. He allowed two earned runs on 11 hits with two strikeouts and zero walks.

Catcher Nolan Lepel (Jr., Plato, Minn.) and Panning led the Gusties at the plate, each going 2-for-3.

Game two was sent to extras with a 2-2 tie ballgame, and a two-run 10th inning was enough for the visitors to come away with the win. Adam Stockwell (So., Apple Valley, Minn.) tossed the first five innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Mitchell Nordin (Fy., Mahtomedi, Minn.) got the win after five innings of relief. He allowed one run on four hits with four strikeouts and didn’t surrender a walk.

The Lancers took a 2-0 lead after the first two frames, but the Gusties had a response in the third with one run on a hit and an error. Panning reached on an error and then scored on a double off the bat of Isaiah Welckle (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn.). Gustavus evened the score at 2-2 in the sixth as Lepel hit a solo home run, the first of the season by the Gusties.

With two outs in the 10th inning, the Gusties rallied with three consecutive doubles by Josh Chatfield (Sr., Apple Valley, Minn.), Lepel, and Dan Carlson (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) for a pair of runs. The Lancers responded with a run in the bottom half, but Nordin closed the door for the victory.

Lepel (2-5, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2B, HR) and Carlson (2-5, RBI, 2B) led the team at the plate with a pair of hits each.

Gustavus travels to Northwestern-St. Paul Wednesday for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
