Chatfield, Lewandoski Named MIAC Baseball All-Conference

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its 2017 All-Conference Baseball Team on Monday and two Gusties were honored with postseason accolades. Right fielder Josh Chatfield (Sr., Apple Valley, Minn.) and pitcher Casey Lewandoski (Jr., Fairbanks, Alaska) were named to the All-Conference Team, both making their first appearance on the All-MIAC team.

Gustie Baseball Field Sent Off In Style, Gusties Top League-Leading St. Thomas In 13 Innings

The Gustavus baseball team played the last game ever at the natural-grass Gustie Baseball Field Saturday, and sent it off in dramatic fashion by upsetting league-leading St. Thomas 5-4 in 13 innings for a doubleheader split. The Gusties dropped the first game 6-5 before the thrilling extra-inning victory to finish the season 21-17 overall and 9-11 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Tommies move to 24-13 overall and 16-4 in the league and may now have to share the regular season title with Bethel, pending the outcome of its doubleheader tomorrow.

Josh Chatfield Named To CoSIDA Academic All-District Baseball Team

The 2017 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Baseball Teams were released Thursday and Gustavus senior Josh Chatfield (Apple Valley, Minn.) was named to the 11-member District 6 Team, which features student-athletes from Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. The CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

The Gustavus baseball team salvaged a split Wednesday against Augsburg in its final road test of the season, dropping the first game 5-0 before claiming game two 6-1 at Parade Stadium.
