ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s hockey team heads back into Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play this weekend as they face off in a series against the College of Saint Benedict.

The Gusties (4-3-1, 1-2-1 MIAC) host the Blazers (2-3, 0-3 MIAC) at Don Roberts Ice Rink in St. Peter, Minn. at 7 p.m. Friday. On Saturday, Saint Benedict hosts Gustavus in St. Cloud, Minn. at 3 p.m.

Last Time Out: Tuesday evening, Gustavus earned its fourth win of the season. The Gusties came back from a 2-1 deficit in the third period, eventually defeating the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire 3-2 at Don Roberts Ice Rink. Emily Gustafson (Sr., Esko, Minn.) scored the game-winning goal and Bailey Jackson (Fy., Chaska, Minn.) recorded her first collegiate victory in net.

Series Snapshot: Friday’s game marks the 40th all-time meeting between the Gustavus and Saint Benedict women’s hockey programs. Gustavus owns a 35-3-1 record over Saint Benedict and is 6-3-1 against the Blazers over the last five seasons. Last season, the Gusties lost and tied against the Blazers.

About the Blazers: The College of Saint Benedict began the 2016-17 campaign scoring 14 goals through the first two games with big wins over Northland College. The Blazers are off to an 0-3 start in conference play, most recently falling by a score of 2-1 against Hamline University. Through five games, Saint Benedict is leading the MIAC, averaging 4.6 goal per game despite also allowing a league worst 3.95 goals against per game. Senior forward Elli Marvin is the MIAC leading scorer with 11 points from seven goals and four assists on the season. Sophomore goaltender Julia Carle has led the Blazers in net, holding a .933 save percentage.

Gustavus Notables:

– Gustavus earned its first come from behind victory, Tuesday evening. The Gusties were trailing 2-1 against the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire after two periods of play before scoring twice in the third period to earn a 3-2 victory.

Emily Gustafson (Sr., Esko, Minn.) and Kaitlyn Klein (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) lead the Gusties through eight games, each having three goals and one assist.

Bailey Jackson (Fy., Chaska, Minn.) posted 13 saves in goal Tuesday against UW-Eau Claire to record her first collegiate win, moving her record to 1-2-1 on the season.

Nicole Abraham (Fy., St. Paul, Minn.) assisted on the game-winning goal against UWEau Claire for her first collegiate point.

Laura Johnson (Jr., Chanhassen, Minn.) scored her first goal of the season Tuesday, on the power play.
