ST. PETER, Minn. – Sophomore women’s basketball player Mikayla Miller (Goodhue, Minn) and senior men’s basketball player Chris Narum (Eagan, Minn) have been selected as the Gustavus Adolphus College December Male and Female Student-Athletes-Of-The-Month presented by Thrivent Financial and voted on by the Gustavus Sports Information Department.

Sophomore star Mikayla Miller was a driving force in the Gustavus women’s basketball team’s 6-1 overall record during the month of December. Miller proved to be a scoring threat in each of the team’s seven games, as the Goodhue native put up double-digit scoring totals in each contest, including a 22-point effort against Saint Mary’s on Dec. 2, her second highest point total of the season. The sophomore guard had another standout game to close out the 2015 calendar year, as she notched her second career double-double with an 11-point, 11-rebound effort in a 47-29 victory over Ramapo College on Dec. 28 in the Puerto Rico Clasico.
Along with leading the Gusties, Miller is atop several conference statistical categories as well, as she currently ranks third in the MIAC in scoring with a 16.7 point per game average, first in steals with 3.2 per game, and ninth in shooting percentage at 49.2 percent. Miller also earned MIAC Women’s Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week honors the week of Dec. 7 after leading the Gusties to a 1-1 record against two 2015 playoff squads.

Senior point guard Chris Narum has been an offensive juggernaut for the Gustavus men’s basketball team’s six December games. Narum started the month on a high note, scoring a career high 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting, including going 5-for-11 from beyond the arc in a 79-70 defeat to Augsburg College on Dec. 5. The Eagan product then continued his offensive output at the Puerto Rico Clasico, where he scored eight points in a narrow 52-51 defeat to Vassar College on Dec. 28. Narum followed that up with a 17-point outing on 4-of-7 shooting to lead the Gusties to a 55-48 victory against SUNY Oneonta the next day, making him the Gusties’ lone double-digit scorer in that game. Narum also proved his ability to find his teammates, as he led the team in assists in 5-of-6 December games, including dishing out six on Dec. 9 versus Bethel University.
Over the course of the month, Narum led the team in scoring twice, rebounding once, and assists five times, and is currently ranked fifth in the MIAC with 3.5 assists per game. He is also second on the team in scoring with a 10.3 point per game average and is tied for fifth in rebounding with 3.3 per contest.
