Men’s Golf On Top After Day One At Augsburg Invitational Posted on September 9th, 2012 by

Andrew Oakes shot a 73 (+1) on Saturday to lead the Gusties to the top spot after day one

Ham Lake, Minn. – With an opening round score of 303 (+15), the Gustavus men’s golf team finds itself in the lead after one day of competition at the Augsburg Invitational.

Gustavus sits in front with a narrow lead over Luther College (305) and the University of St. Thomas (307).  The Gustie men finished third at the Augsburg Invitational last season after sitting in second place after round one.

“We played okay,” remarked Head Coach Scott Moe.  “We left some shots on the golf course, but getting the first stroke play competition out of the way is a good thing, and we should see a good round tomorrow.”

The Gusties used a strong performance from Andrew Oakes (Jr., Hermantown, Minn.) to claim the top spot following Saturday’s round.  Oakes shot a 73 (+1) and is currently tied for the individual lead with Tommy Koehler of Saint John’s University.

Play is set to continue tomorrow morning at Majestic Oaks Golf Club.
