Women’s Golf In Second After Opening Round Of Wartburg Invite Posted on September 9th, 2012 by

Liz Strom sits in seventh place alongside Sam Falk after day of the Wartburg Invite.

Waverly, Iowa – The Gustavus Adolphus women’s golf team is currently in second place following the opening round of competition at the Wartburg Fall Invite being held Saturday and Sunday at Centennial Oaks Golf Course.  Gustavus shot a 323 (+35) on the first day and trail MIAC opponent Carleton who shot a 322 (+34).  Fellow MIAC contender St. Thomas also shot a 323 to rank second alongside the Gusties.

“Sam, Liz, and Kayleigh posted very competitive scores today.  Overall, it was a very consistent round for the team, especially compared to last weekend,” said assistant coach Taylor Denttel.  “They played especially smart and used the wind well.  Heading into tomorrow, if we can focus on our short game and getting some putts to drop, it will be a better result.”

After shooting matching 78s (+6), Sam Falk (So., Glenwood, Minn.) and Liz Strom (So., Shanley, N.D.) sit in a four-way tie for seventh place.  Kayleigh Dittes (Sr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) shot an 80 (+8) in the opening round and sits in 12th.

The Gustavus women’s golf team will be back on Centennial Oaks tomorrow morning to conclude the Wartburg Invite.
