Clause And Flotterud Compete In Opening Day Of MIAC Decathlon

Gustavus Adolphus track and field athletes Cameron Clause (Mankato, Minn.) and Matt Flotterud (Cannon Falls, Minn.) were busy competing in the MIAC Decathlon on Friday in Northfield, Minn.  After the first day’s competition, Cameron Clause is in seventh with 2, 933 points and Matt Flotterud is in 12th with 2, 849 points.

Clause recorded two finishes inside the top-10, going third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.44, and sixth in the long jump with a leap of 20-1.50.  The Mankato, Minn. native also placed 14th in the shot put (31-4.75) and 15th in the high jump (5-3).

Flotterud’s top mark came in the shot put where he recorded a throw of 37-3.75 to finish second. He also placed fourth after clearing 5-11.25 in the high jump.  Flotterud rounded out the day by taking 11th in the long jump (18-7.25), 15th in the 400-meter dash (56.02), and 17th in the 100-meter dash (12.42).

Athletes from the University of St. Thomas round out the top-three after day one.  Maxwell Dunne leads the way with 3, 261 points, Patrick Ecklund is in second with 3, 216 points, and Gavin Yseth is in third with 3, 200 points.
