Men’s Golf Moves Up Leader Board To Second After Day Two Of Twin Cities Classic

Andrew Oakes jumped into third place after shooting a 71 (-1) on day two of the Twin Cities Classic.

The Gustavus men’s golf team posted the lowest team score on day two of the Twin Cities Classic with a 293 (+5) Sunday in Elk River, Minn., jumping into a tie for second place with Concordia. Both the Gusties and Cobbers have a two-day total of 600 (+24). The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire moved into first place after shooting 295 for a two-day total of 593 (+17).

For the second consecutive day, Andrew Oakes and Tyler McMorrow paced the Gusties on the leaderboard with scores of 71 (-1) and 73 (+1), respectively. Oakes, a Hermantown, Minn. native, moved into third place at 75-71-146 (+2) and McMorrow sits in a three-way tie for sixth at 75-73-148 (+4). Junior Coby Rowley also shot a one-over-par 73 on day two, improving on his first round score by seven stokes and is in 26th (+9).

Alex Pederson led Gustavus’ second team, keeping stride with McMorrow and Rowley with a round two 73 and is tied for 18th (+8). Also cracking the top-40 in the field of 96 was Alex Kolquist, who sits in 39th with an 80-76-156 (+12).

“We played well today, moved up the ladder,” Gustavus Head Coach Scott Moe acknowledged. “Tomorrow is a big day, very tough golf course. The team that plays smart can have a great day – great golf course to finish our fall season. I am excited to watch us play.”

UW-Eau Claire’s Tim McCormick improved two strokes from his first round and stands alone in first place at 72-70-142 (-2). Pat Larkin of St. Thomas’ second team, who was the leader after day one, dropped to second after shooting a 76 on day two for a total of 145 (+1).

The Gusties will finish the three-day tournament on Monday held at Links at Northfork in Ramsey, Minn., the Elk River Country Club in Elk River, Minn. and Rush Creek Golf Club in Maple Grove, Minn.
