Men’s Golf Takes Third At Twin Cities Classic Posted on October 10th, 2011 by

Tyler McMorrow tied for seventh place at the Twin Cities Classic with a three-day total of 225 (+9).

The Gustavus men’s golf team placed third at the Twin Cities Classic on Monday with a three-day total of 307-293-310-910. The final round of the 18-team tournament was held at Rush Creek Golf Club in Maple Grove, Minn. Concordia won the event with a score of 903 and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire was just one stroke behind at 904 for second.

Concordia’s Coy Papachek won the tournament with a five-over-par 221. Dennis Granath of Saint John’s took second with a 222 (+6) and UW-Eau Claire’s Jimmy Hutchings finished with a 223 (+7) for third.

Sophomore Tyler McMorrow tied for seventh in the field of 95 with a total of 75-73-77-225 (+9) for the Gusties. Fellow second-year Andrew Oakes also broke the top-10 for the third time this season with a ninth place finish at 75-71-80-226 (+10).  Junior Coby Rowley rebounded from a pedestrian first round performance by finishing 19th with a score of 80-73-76-229 (+13).

Senior Alex Pederson paced the Gusties’ second team, finishing in a tie for 35th at 79-73-82-234 (+18). Junior Alex Flasch was three strokes behind Pederson in a tie for 45th at 80-79-78-237 (+21). The second team placed 14th with a collective score of 316-319-332-967.

The Gusties completed their fall schedule with four third-place finishes and one second place mark. Throughout their six tournaments, Gustavus posted an average round of 305.3 (+17). Rowley and Oakes led the team with 75.9-round averages.
