Jeffrey Dubose Name MIAC Offensive Player of the Week

Gustavus Adolphus freshman running back Jeffrey Dubose has been named MIAC Football Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in Gustavus’s 42-14 win over Hamline on Saturday afternoon in St. Peter, Minn.  Dubose carried the ball 21 times for a season-high 202 yards (9.6 avg.) and one touchdown.

The Gustavus offense picked up a total of 502 yards, 318 of which were on the ground.  It is the third best single-game rushing performance since 1996 for Gustavus team, sitting behind a 354-yard game against Augsburg in 2008 and a 344-yard game against St. Olaf in 1996.

Dubose showed patience in hole development and a solid burst of speed all afternoon, tallying big-play runs of 13 yards, 15 yards, 29 yards, and 85 yards.  On his 85-yard run in the third quarter, Dubose took the handoff and disappeared into a mass of bodies at the line of scrimmage.  He then broke out of the pile and accelerated 85-yards for the touchdown to put the Gusties up 28-14.  It ranks as the second longest run in school history behind Scott Anderson’s 91-yard touchdown run in 1991.

His 202-yard performance ranks 14th in Gustavus history behind Tom Dahlberg, who rushed for 208 yards against UM-Duluth in 1970.  The last Gustavus player to hit the 200 yard mark in a game was Ray Wilson in 2008.  Wilson picked up 258 yards on the ground against Augsburg.

Dubose currently ranks third in the MIAC in rushing with 453 yards on 73 carries for an average of 6.2 yards per rush.

The Gustavus football team will face its toughest road test of the season on Saturday Oct. 16 when it travels to Arden Hills, Minn. to take on Bethel at 1:00 p.m.
