The Gustavus women’s soccer improved to 2-0 with a 3-1 win over Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa on Saturday afternoon. The Gusties scored twice in the first half and once in the second half to take a 3-0 lead, but Grinnell scored with just under four minutes left to play to make the final score 3-1. Callie Christensen (Jr., Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson), Christy Tupy (Jr., Eagan, Minn./Burnsville), and Julien Babel (Fy., Northfield, Minn.) scored for the Gusties. Ashley Ohlson (So., Anchorage, Alaska/Dimond) recorded the win in the nets for Gustavus.

Mike Stehlik’s squad got off to a quick start when midfielder Callie Christensen scored at the 6:42 mark with an assist from Jenna Iaizzo (Sr., White Bear Lake, Minn.). The Gusties extended their lead to 2-0 when Christy Tupy scored her second goal of the season at the 11:41 mark. Tupy’s goal was unassisted. Gustavus held a 2-0 lead at the intermission.

The Gusties maintained their 2-0 lead late into the second half when first year midfielder Julien Babel scored at the 71:45 mark to make the lead 3-0 in favor of Gustavus. Rachel Iblings (So, Plymouth, Minn./Armstrong) was credited with the assist.

Grinnell cut the lead to 3-1 when Amelia Stoker scored at the 86:50 mark.

Ashley Ohlson picked up her second win of the season in the nets for the Gusties. She allowed one goal and recorded three saves.

Gustavus will host UW-Stevens Point in its home opener next Friday, September 7 at 4:30 pm.
