The Gustavus women’s golf team opened its 2007 season with a third place finish at the 18-team UW-Eau Claire Invitational. The tournament was played at Mill Run Golf Course on Saturday and Wild Ridge Golf Course on Sunday. St. Thomas won the tournament with a score of 326-328–654, while UW-Stevens Point finished second at 328-337–665, and the Gusties were third at 327-340–667. Sophomore Kali Griggs finished fifth individually to lead Gustavus. She posted a 36-hole total of 80-81–161.

The Gusties got off to a solid start on Saturday shooting a team total of 327 which was four strokes behind first day leader Wartburg. Saturday’s results for Gustavus included Kali Griggs (80), Kimbra Kosak (81), Katie Schenfeld (83), Rachel Roberg (83), and Amanda Johnson (89).

On Sunday, the Gusties struggled a bit posting a team score of 340, which was 13 strokes behind their total of 327 on Saturday. Kali Griggs led the way once again with a score of 81. Other totals for Gustavus included Rachel Roberg (82), Amanda Johnson (88), Kimbra Kosak (89), and Katie Schenfeld (90).

Individually, Griggs led the way for Gustavus with a 36-hole total of 81-80-161 which was good for fifth place. Rachel Roberg posted a total of 83-82–165 and finished 10th. Other finishes included Kimbra Kosak in 21st at 81-89–170, Katie Schenfeld in 28th at 83-90–173, and Amanda Johnson in 40th at 89-88–177.

Gustavus will take part in the Wartburg Invitational this Saturday and Sunday in Waverly, Iowa.
