Men’s Track and Field Opens Outdoor Season With Fourth Place Finish at Central Invitational

The Gustavus Adolphus College men's track and field team opened its outdoor season Friday, April 6, with a fourth-place finish at the Central (Iowa) Invitational in Pella, Iowa. Hastings College scored 174 points to run away with the team title, followed by Iowa Central Community College (118), host Central (89), and Gustavus (80.5). Alex Zupan won the 1500 and 5000 races to lead the Gusties, who host the Lee Krough Invitational Saturday, April 14.

Tony Konicek Named MIAC Baseball Player of the Week

Gustavus Adolphus College senior centerfielder Tony Konicek (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) has been named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Position Player of the Week for the week ending April 8, 2007. Konicek, the reigning conference MVP, was 6-for-9 (.667) with three doubles, two runs scored, and an RBI as the Gusties recorded a doubleheader split with St. Thomas on April 2.

Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach Aaron Kahl Named Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Dakota Wesleyan

Aaron Kahl, the assistant men's basketball coach at Gustavus, has been named the head women's basketball coach at Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, South Dakota. He will begin his new duties immediately.

Softball Doubleheader With Concordia For Wednesday Postponed, Moved to Friday

The Gustavus softball doubleheader at Concordia scheduled for Wednesday, April 11 has been postponed and moved to Friday, April 13 at 4:00 pm.

Women’s Track and Field Takes Fourth at Central (Iowa) Invitational

The Gustavus Adolphus College women's track and field team opened their outdoor season Friday, April 6, with a fourth place finish at the Central (Iowa) Invitational in Pella, Iowa. Gustavus finished with 99.5 points, while Simpson edged Hastings out 183.5-177.5 for the team title. Sophomore Lisa Brown provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships with a 134-01 effort in the javelin throw, placing second.

Baseball Splits Home Opener With Hamline; Saint John’s Doubleheader Postponed to Wednesday

The Gustavus Adolphus College baseball team posted a split with Hamline in the first doubleheader on the new Gustavus diamond. The Pipers held the Gusties to just three hits en route to a 4-0 victory in game one, but Gustavus captured the nightcap 4-3 in 10 innings on a RBI single by Shea Roehrkasse. The Gusties' MIAC doubleheader with Saint John's scheduled for Tuesday, April 10, in Collegeville has been postponed to Wednesday, April 11, at 2:30 p.m.

Women’s Tennis Team Finishes Third at Midwest Invitational

The Gustavus women's tennis team finished third out of 11 teams at the Midwest Invitational played in Madison, Wisconsin on Friday and Saturday. The Gusties, who were seeded #2, defeated Washington University of St. Louis 6-0 in the quarterfinal round, then lost to #3 seed Denison University 5-3 in the semifinals, before finishing the tournament with a 5-1 win over Carthage in the third place match.

Women’s Tennis Tops Washington University 6-0 at Midwest Invitational

The Gustavus women's tennis team, which is seeded #2 at the Midwest Invitational, received a first round bye and then defeated Washington University 6-0 on Friday afternoon in the quarterfinals. The Gusties will now face #3 seed Denison University on Saturday morning at 7:30 am. The tournament is being played in Madison, Wisconsin.

Baseball Schedule Changes

Due to the forecast of cold temperatures over the weekend, Saturday's MIAC baseball doubleheader between Gustavus and Hamline has been moved to Monday, April 9 at 1:30 p.m. in St. Peter. The nonconference baseball doubleheader with Buena Vista originally scheduled for Monday has been moved to Sunday, April 29.

The Gustavus softball doubleheader scheduled for Friday, April 6 at Buena Vista has been postponed due to cold weather and re-scheduled for Sunday, April 29.
