The Gustavus softball team swept Macalester College in St. Paul on Thursday, April 13. The Gusties defeated the Scots 7-0 in game one and 3-0 in game two. Pitcher Joyce DeWitz pitched ten innings faced 31 batters and allowed no hits.

The Gustavus baseball team struggled through a disappointing afternoon in Arden Hills losing twice to Bethel University by the scores of 9-4 and 9-6. The Gusties have now lost five of their last six games in MIAC play.

Joyce DeWitz Named MIAC Pitcher of the Week

Joyce DeWitz, a sophomore from Good Thunder, Minn., has been named Pitcher of the Week in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. DeWitz tied an NCAA record with 20 strikeouts in a game against Concordia last Saturday.

The Gustavus women’s softball team saw its eight-game win streak come to and end with two losses to Saint Mary’s in St. Peter on Wednesday afternoon. The Cardinals claimed game one 5-3 and then completed the sweep with a 9-1 victory in game two.

The Gustavus Adolphus College track & field teams will host the fifth annual Lee Krough Invitational on Saturday, April 16. Field events will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the running events will begin at 12:30 p.m.

The Gustavus men’s golf team is set to compete in the Buena Vista Classic on April 15-16. Friday’s round will take place at the Spencer C.C. in Spencer, Iowa and Saturday’s round will be played at Lake Creek C.C. in Storm Lake, Iowa.

The Gustavus women’s track & field team placed second at the Washington University Select Meet in St. Louis, Missouri. Twenty-six different student-athletes scored for Gustavus to compile 144 points, just one point behind meet champion Central College.

The Gustavus softball team extended its winning streak to eight games with two wins at Concordia on Saturday. The Gusties won game one 6-1 in 11 innings as Joyce DeWitz tied an NCAA record by striking out 20 Cobbers. Gustavus also won game two 6-1.

The Gustavus women’s golf team compiled a two-round score of 333-327–660 to tie for second place at the Best Western Riverport Invitational on Sunday, April 10. The invite was hosted by Winona State University at the Cedar Valley Golf Club in Winona.
