Gymnastics Heads To Winona Today For Brooke Baures ‘Smile On’ Memorial Invite

The Gustavus gymnastics team is set to participate in the four-team Brooke Baures "Smile On" Memorial Invite at 6:30 p.m. today in Winona, Minn. The participating teams include Gustavus, Winona State, UW-Stout and UW-Whitewater. Tonight's meet is the first on the road for the Gusties as they were edged by UW-Oshkosh 176.975-176.250 in the home opener last Saturday.

The Gustavus gymnastics team started its 2016 season with an extremely slim loss to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Saturday afternoon by the score of 176.975-176.250.

It is the beginning of a new season and with the fresh start the Gustavus gymnastics team has its eyes set on making big strides forward. The Gusties know they can’t affect the scoring of their opponents in a competitive Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, so they plan on keeping the focus on themselves to improve every day.

For the fifth time in program history and the first time since 2008, the Gustavus volleyball team is making an appearance in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) tournament. The Gusties (27-2) received the No. 2 seed in the Whitewater, Wis. regional and are set to face the No. 7 seed University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (26-9) at 3 p.m. Thursday at Russell Arena.

Gustavus Adolphus junior gymnast Sam Opsahl (Forest Lake, Minn.) has been named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Gymnastics Specialist-of-the-Week for her performance at the John Zuerlein Invitational hosted by UW-Stout on Saturday, Jan. 27. Women’s Soccer Falls In Season Opener To UW-Stevens Point 3-0

The Gustavus women’s soccer team opened the 2010 season with a 3-0 loss to non-conference opponent UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday afternoon in Stevens Point, Wis. UW-Stevens Point forward Angela Gallow recorded two goals in the match, while goalkeeper Liz Hunter made four saves on her way to the shutout.

Women’s Soccer Season Preview

The 2010 Gustavus women’s soccer team will look for a turn-around season in a new decade and improve on its 7-8-3 record (3-7-1 MIAC) and ninth place conference finish of last season. Head coach Mike Stehlik, in his 20th season as the head coach of the Gustavus women’s soccer team, will command another young, but talented, squad.

Gymnastics Falls To UW-Stout 173.725-169.750

The Gustavus gymnastics team dropped it's opening road meet to WIAC opponent UW-Stout 173.725-169.750 on Friday night in Menomonie, Wisc. UW-Stout’s Meghan Hargens and Naomi DeLara were the top performers in the meet as they each won two events. Kelly Mathewson was the top Gustavus performer, taking second in the all-around (34.625).

Gymnastics Takes Seventh at WIAC Championships/NCGA West Regional

The Gustavus Adolphus gymnastics team posted a seventh-place finish at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships Thursday at Mitchell Hall on the campus of University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. The Gusties finished with a team score of 177.050, its second highest mark of the season. The meet also serves as the West Regional for the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association Championships. Brittany Moore tied for second on the vault with a 9.550.
