Kopp Earns Second WIAC All-Around Athlete Of The Week Honor

Gustavus gymnast Alex Kopp (Jr., Wayzata, Minn.) has earned Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Gymnastics All-Around Athlete of the Week honors for the second time this season after posting a career-high score in a dual meet against UW-Whitewater last Saturday. Kopp led the Golden Gusties on each event, finishing with a career-high in the all-around, bars and balance beam. Kopp placed seventh on bars with a 9.125. On the balance beam, her 9.525 earned her a second-place finish on the event and the 14th-highest mark all-time for Gustavus. In the all-around, Kopp complied a 37.425, the ninth-best all-around score by a gymnast in program history.

The Gustavus gymnastics team has a tough task Saturday as it faces off against national powerhouse UW-Whitewater in a dual meet. Gustavus is most recently coming off a 179.675-179.625 defeat at UW-Stout last Friday, while UW-Whitewater lost last Friday 193.900-189.175 at Southeast Missouri State.

The Gustavus gymnastics team is set to take on UW-Stout at 6 p.m. Friday in Menomonie, Wis. for a dual meet. The Gusties are coming off a 180.775-180.200 victory over Winona State last Tuesday in St. Peter. Gustavus's score against Winona State was the highest in 12 years and first dual victory since 2013.

Gustavus gymnast Alex Kopp (Jr., Wayzata, Minn.) has been named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Gymnastics All-Around Athlete of the Week for her performance last Saturday in Winona, Minn. Kopp placed first out of nine all-around competitors to win the first annual Brooke Baures Memorial "Smile On" Invitational against host Winona State, UW-Whitewater and UW-Stout. She placed first with a career high 37.350.

Gymnastics Hosts Winona State On Tuesday

The Gustavus gymnastics team is set to host its second dual meet of the season Tuesday at the Sponberg Gymnastics Studio. The Gusties welcome Winona State University for a 6 p.m. meet, just three days after competing against each other at the Brooke Baures “Smile On” Invite in Winona, Minn. Gustavus took fourth of four teams with a score of 177.500, while the host Warriors took second with a score of 184.325. After two meets this season, Gustavus is off to its best start since the 2004 campaign.
