Six Gusties Recognized In MIAC Softball Postseason Awards

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its 2016 Softball postseason awards Monday afternoon and three Gusties were named to the All-Conference Team. Representing Gustavus on the 2016 MIAC All-Conference Softball Team are catcher Nathalee Boissiere (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.), pitcher/outfielder Hannah Heacox (Jr., Stillwater, Minn.), and first base/pitcher Jena Willis (Jr., Kalispell, Mt.). Outfielder Rachel Strandmark (So., New Ulm, Minn.), utility player Jessica Williams (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) and infielder Emily Webb (Fy., Maple Lake, Minn.) were also recognized by the MIAC as Honorable Mention selections.

One Big Inning Proves Too Much To Overcome, Softball Ends Season With 5-3 Loss To Hamline

Much like in the opening game of the MIAC Softball Playoffs yesterday for Gustavus, the Gusties were unable to rebound after allowing a four-run inning, losing 5-3 to Hamline on Saturday in an elimination game. The Gusties finish the season 26-12 overall and finished second in the MIAC standings with a 17-5 league record.

Softball Sweeps Concordia To Wrap Up Regular Season

The Gustavus softball team concluded the regular season Tuesday by sweeping Concordia 7-2 and 5-2, improving to 26-10 overall and 17-5 in the MIAC. The Gusties enter the MIAC playoffs as the No. 2 seed and will face No. 3 St. Catherine at 5 p.m. Friday in St. Paul. Regular season MIAC champion St. Thomas hosts the entire playoff. The Gusties and Tommies both come into the tournament with eight-game winning streaks.

Softball Clinches No. 2 Seed In MIAC Playoffs, Sweeps St. Kate’s

The Gustavus softball team made a statement Sunday, sweeping St. Catherine 2-0 and 2-1, leapfrogging the Wildcats into second place in the MIAC standings and clinching the No. 2 seed in the playoffs. The conference playoff berth is the 13th consecutive for the Gusties as they have qualified for the MIAC tourney in every season (11) under the direction of Head Coach Jeff Annis. Gustavus is now 24-10 overall and 15-5 in the league with two regular season games left.

Softball Moves Into Third Place With Sweep Of Carleton

The Gustavus softball team moved into third place in the MIAC standings by sweeping Carleton on Saturday. The Gusties won by scores of 5-2 and 8-2, improving to 22-10 overall and 13-5 in the league.

Softball Begins MIAC Play Today At Bethel

After 10 non-league games and a week of rest, the Gustavus softball team begins Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play at 3:30 p.m. today in a doubleheader at Bethel University. The Gusties enter the contests with a 6-4 overall record, while the Royals are 5-9.

Softball Wraps Up Tucson Invite With 6-2 Loss To UW-Eau Claire

The Gustavus softball team concluded the Tucson Invitational Sunday with a 6-2 loss to UW-Eau Claire, moving to 6-4 overall. The Blugolds took an early 4-0 lead after the first two innings, which proved to be too large of a deficit for the Gusties to come back from.

Softball Splits Day One At Tucson Invitational

The Gustavus softball team kicked off its spring trip in Tucson on Thursday with a 6-2 comeback victory over Denison, but suffered its first loss of the season in the second game of the day, falling 9-1 to UW-Eau Claire to move to 5-1 overall.
