The Gustavus women’s hockey team rebounded after a tough loss last night, earning a 4-2 victory over Hamline on Saturday to split the regular season series. The Gusties scored three goals in the first period and held off a late rally by the Pipers to improve to 4-1-1 overall and 3-1 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Women’s Hockey Drops Puck On 2017-18 Season Saturday At UW-Superior

The Gustavus women’s hockey team is set to drop the puck on the 2017-18 campaign Saturday against the University of Wisconsin-Superior. Action begins 2 p.m. at Siinto S. Wessman Arena in Superior, Wis. The Gusties are coming off their 14th MIAC Championship season, where they boasted a 13-2-3 record in the league (19-7-3 overall), and finished third at the NCAA Championships. UW-Superior opens its season tonight against Concordia-Wisconsin. The Yellowjackets posted a 12-15 overall record last season and went 2-7 in the WIAC.

Gustavus Women's Hockey coach Mike Carroll is no stranger to success. When he was named MIAC Coach of the Year this year, it was the seventh time he’d earned the honor in his 18-year career. A gritty and scrappy performance by the Gustavus women’s hockey team Friday resulted in game that needed more than 60 minutes to declare a victor. But in a game that saw 19 penalties, including a season-high 10 called on the Gusties, host Adrian was able to take advantage of its opportunities in the offensive zone, eventually scoring the game-winning goal 13:15 into the extra frame.

Klein is back home after having successful surgery at the University of Vermont Medical Center to repair her C7 vertebrae.
