Post-Season Accolades Continue For Men’s Soccer Team

The Gustavus Adolphus College men's soccer team continues to earn post-season awards for success on and off the field. Senior forward Mike Butterworth and sophomore midfielder Fraser Horton have been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Far West region and the D3Kicks.com West region teams. Senior midfielder Jack Underwood joined Butterworth and Horton on the NSCAA All-Far West region team, as well as being named to the NSCAA Scholar All-American team.

Gustavus Adolphus College senior forward Mike Butterworth (Katy, Texas) has been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-America team. Butterworth, the 2007 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Player of the Year, was named a third team All-America honoree.

Gustavus Adolphus College senior men's soccer player Trevor Brown (Madison, Wisc.) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Men's Soccer Team as released by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Brown is a College Division Second Team selection.

Men’s Soccer Team Set To Face Whitworth in 1st Round of NCAA Tournament

The Gustavus men's soccer team will face Whitworth University in the First Round of the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament on Friday, Nov. 9 at 5:00 pm (Central Standard Time) at J.J. Keller Field in Titan Stadium in Oshkosh, Wis. Gustavus, which shared the MIAC regular season title and won the MIAC Post-Season Tournament, enters with a mark of 16-3-1. Whitworth, which won the regular season Northwest Conference title, enters with a mark of 14-3-1.

Men’s Soccer Falls to Whitworth 2-1 in Overtime in First Round of NCAA Tournament

The Whitworth University men's soccer team claimed a 2-1 overtime victory over Gustavus Adolphus College in the first round of the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament on Friday night in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Whitworth will now advance to the second round to face the winner of Wartburg/UW-Oshkosh on Saturday, November 10 in Oshkosh, Wis. at 6:00 pm.

Men’s Soccer Wins Second Straight MIAC Tournament; Advances to NCAA Tournament

Bret Vander Streek (So., Pella, Iowa) broke a scoreless tie early in the second half to help the Gustavus men's soccer team win its second straight MIAC Tournament by defeating St. Olaf 2-0 Saturday afternoon in St. Peter. Gustavus has won four of the five MIAC Post-Season Tournaments and every final the team has played in. With the victory, the Gusties earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament, making its fourth consecutive appearance.

Men’s Soccer Advances to MIAC Post-Season Finals With 2-1 Victory Over St. Thomas

Mike Butterworth (Sr., Katy, Tex.) scored with less than three minutes remaining to propel the #2 seed Gustavus men's soccer team past St. Thomas 2-1 in a MIAC Post-Season Semifinal Wednesday afternoon in St. Peter. The win marks the fourth time Gustavus will play in the MIAC Post-Season Final where the Golden Gusties will take on #4 seed St. Olaf Saturday at 1:00 pm in St. Peter. St. Olaf knocked off #1 seed Carleton 1-0 earlier in the afternoon.

The Gustavus Adolphus men's soccer team will play St. Olaf College in the MIAC Post-Season Tournament Championship on Saturday, November 3 at 1:00 pm in St. Peter. The winner will earn an automatic bid in the NCAA Tournament. The Gustavus athletic department will video stream the match so interested parties can watch and hear the game over the internet. Gustavus student Scott Slarks will handle the play-by-play duties. The broadcast will begin at 12:50 pm.

Men’s Soccer Claims Share of MIAC Regular Season Title With 1-0 Overtime Win Over St. Thomas

The Gustavus men's soccer claimed a share of its fourth consecutive MIAC Regular Season Title with a 1-0 overtime win against St. Thomas Saturday afternoon. The four straight titles won by the Golden Gusties mark the second time in MIAC history the feat has been accomplished. The only other time was when Gustavus claimed four consecutive titles from 69-72. Mike Butterworth scored the game-winning unassisted goal at 2:07 in overtime.

Men’s Soccer Stays in Hunt For MIAC Title with 1-0 Win Over Macalester

The Gustavus men's soccer team kept its hopes alive for the MIAC regular season title with a 1-0 win over Macalester in St. Peter, Minn. on Tuesday afternoon. Bret Vander Streek scored the game-winner for the Gusties off an assist from Fraser Horton in the seventh minute of the match. Gustavus moved into a first place tie with Carleton after posting the win over the Scots. The Gusties play at St. Thomas on Saturday, while the Knights play at St. Olaf with the conference title on the line.
