Comeback Falls Short As Men’s Soccer Loses To UC-Santa Cruz 3-2

In a physical match that featured 24 fouls and three yellow cards, Gustavus fell to UC-Santa Cruz 3-1 in St. Peter Saturday morning. UC-Santa Cruz scored two of the three goals in a six-minute span in the second half to take a 3-1 lead the Gusties would be unable to overcome. The three goals allowed were the most goals given up by a Gustavus defense since 2001. Gustavus drops to 12-3-1 overall, while UC-Santa Cruz improved to 13-4.

Men’s Soccer Tallies 400th Program Win With 1-0 Overtime Victory Over Bethel

The Gustavus men's soccer team made MIAC history Saturday by becoming the first men's soccer program to record 400 wins with a 1-0 overtime win against Bethel in Arden Hills. Fraser Horton scored the game-winner with two minutes remaining in overtime for the victory. Goalkeeper Trevor Brown posted the shutout making six saves in the nets. Gustavus improved its conference record to 7-1-0 and its overall record to 12-2-1. Bethel dropped to 0-7-0 in the MIAC and to 3-12-0 overall.

Men’s Soccer Blanks Augsburg 2-0

The cold weather did not stop the Gustavus men's soccer team from defeating MIAC rival Augsburg 2-0 Wednesday in St. Peter. Sam Barthell scored his first collegiate goal in the first half to give the Gusties a 1-0 halftime lead. Gustavus would extend its lead in the second half on a goal by Mike Butterworth. Goalkeeper Trevor Brown posted his eighth shutout of the season in the nets as Gustavus improved to 11-2-1 overall and 6-1-0 in the MIAC. Augsburg falls to 7-6-0 overall and 3-3-0 in the MIAC.

Men’s Soccer Plays To Wet 1-1 Tie Against UW-Whitewater

On a wet, soggy day that featured a 30-minute rain delay, the Gustavus men's soccer team played to a 1-1 double overtime tie against UW-Whitewater in St. Peter on Sunday. Mike Butterworth scored the Gusties' lone goal on a long pass from Matt Strom eight minutes after the rain delay. UW-Whitewater countered three minutes later with a goal from Ryan Boyd with the assist going to Brett Acree. Gustavus is 10-2-1 overall, while UW-Whitewater moves to 11-1-1.

Strong First Half Pushes Men’s Soccer Past Hamline 3-0

Two first half goals propelled the Gustavus men's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Hamline in St. Peter on Saturday. Max Malmquist (Salt Lake City, Utah) and Chris Adams (White Bear Lake, Minn.) gave the Gusties a 2-0 halftime lead that would be enough for the win. Goalkeeper Trevor Brown (Madison, Wis.) posted his third conference shutout of the season for Gustavus to boost his record to 7-0-0.

Butterworth’s Header Leads Men’s Soccer Past Luther 2-0

Gustavus won a key non-conference match over Luther 2-0 in St. Peter, Minn. Sunday afternoon. Mike Butterworth's (Katy, Tex.) late first half goal proved to be the difference maker for the Gusties. The win was sealed by Ben Eriksson's (Madison, Wisc.) first collegiate goal in the last minute of game with intensified Luther pressure. Trevor Brown (Madison, Wisc.) extended his shutout streak to four games.

Two Quick Strikes Propel Men’s Soccer Past Concordia

Two goals in the first eight minutes powered the Gustavus men's soccer team past Concordia 2-0 Saturday afternoon. Tim Gendron (Burnsville, Minn.) and Ryan Beduhn (St. Cloud, Minn.) put the Gusties on the board as the team never looked back. Luke Strom (Plymouth, Minn.) posted his second shutout of the season.

Vander Streek’s Lone Goal Helps Gustavus Continues Winning Ways Defeating St. Norbert 1-0

The Gustavus men's soccer team kept its' shutout streak alive by defeating St. Norbert 1-0 Saturday afternoon in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Sophomore Bret Vander Streek scored the lone goal for the Gusties but that was enough for Coach Zelenz's squad to record the victory. Senior Trevor Brown got his second shutout of the season making seven saves.

Mike Butterworth Named to d3kicks.com National Team of the Week

Gustavus Adolphus senior forward Mike Butterworth (Katy, Texas/Robert Service) was named to the d3kicks.com National Team of the Week after leading the Gusties to two victories this past weekend. Butterworth had stellar performances in Gustavus' 3-0 win over Simpson on Friday and the Gusties 4-0 win over Grinnell on Saturday. Butterworth began the weekend recording a goal and an assist Friday over the Storm. Butterworth later scored all four goals,

Offense Propels Men’s Soccer to 4-0 Win Over Grinnell

Senior forward Mike Butterworth exploded for four goals (two in each half) to lead Gustavus to a 4-0 win over Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa on Saturday afternoon. Butterworth's scoring is all the Gusties would need as Coach Larry Zelenz's crew outshot the Pioneers 32-7 and first year goaltender Luke Strom made two saves to post his first career shutout.
