Lisa Brown Named Division III Central Region Field Athlete Of The Year
The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has selected Gustavus Adolphus senior Lisa Brown as the 2009 Division III Central Region Women's Field Athlete of the Year. Brown was one of eight student-athletes to receive regional athlete of year honors and is now eligible for Division III National Women's Field Athlete of the Year.
Lisa Brown Finishes 3rd In Javelin At Drake Relays
Gustavus senior Lisa Brown (Lake Crystal, Minn.) finished third in the javelin at the prestigious Drake Relays with a NCAA automatic distance of 161 feet. Brown, whose mark is the second-best throw in Division III so far this outdoor season, was the only non-Division I competitor to finish in the top ten. Kara Patterson of Purdue won the event with a throw of 177 feet, 9 inches.

Five track and field athletes will represent Gustavus at the prestigious Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa on Friday. Senior Lisa Brown (Lake Crystal, Minn.) is the lone Division III competitor entered in the javelin, which will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday. Last year, Brown finished seventh with a mark of 156-6. Senior Tyler Geyen (Watertown, Minn.) will compete in the 110-meter hurdles preliminaries at 11:35 a.m. with the final taking place on Saturday at 3:49 p.m.

Gustavus Adolphus women's field athlete Lisa Brown (Sr., Lake Crystal, Minn.) finished 12th in the javelin throw at the Mt. SAC Relays with a NCAA automatic qualifying throw of 147 feet, 9 inches in Walnut, Calif. on Friday. Her mark ranks second in Division III this season. Brown was the only Division III athlete to compete in a field that included 22 of the top collegiate and Olympic javelin athletes in the country.

Gustavus Adolphus senior Lisa Brown (Lake Crystal, Minn./LCWM) was named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 6, 2009. Brown provisionally qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the shot put and the javelin throw at the Central College Invitational in Pella, Iowa on Saturday.

The Gustavus Adolphus College Athletics Department has announced the 2007-08 Female and Male Student Athletes of the Year and they are Lisa Brown, a track and field athlete from Lake Crystal, Minnesota and Andy Bryan, a tennis player from Edina, Minnesota. Brown and Bryan, who are the eighth annual recipients of the Gustavus Athlete of the Year awards, will be honored at the Gustavus Athletics Hall of Fame Banquet, which will take place on Saturday, October 25 in Alumni Hall on the Gustavus campus.

Gustavus Adolphus College athlete Lisa Brown capped off an exciting track and field season by finishing 13th in the javelin throw at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon on a hot, humid Saturday afternoon. The Lake Crystal, Minn. native recorded a throw of 48.08 meters (157 feet, 9 inches), and narrowly missed participating in Monday night's javelin throw final as the top 12 finishers qualified for the finals.

Brown, who won the national javelin title in 2006 and finished second in 2007, qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials with her winning effort. She is the first Gustavus student-athlete to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Trials in track and field.
